Crate training can be a great way to expedite house training, as well as keeping your dog, and your house safe. People have a tendency to think that the crate is like a prison, and they see it as a scary place for a dog, but it really could be something that the dog can learn to be comfortable, and safe in.
So, we start off by making sure that the dog is having positive experiences in the crate, which means the dog can have hollow bones, things that you can stuff with its food, whole meals, things like that can be served in the crate, so the crate becomes kind of a place where good things happen, and the dog is going to be excited to be in his crate.
You can also train the dog to go into his crate for reward. You ask him to go into the crate, and then lure him in with food, and reward him for going in.
These all have a positive experience for the dog, and we’re not putting the dog in there for eight hours at a time, and then leaving them alone where they have to pee, and their peeing in there, and their pooping in there, etcetera, etcetera.
The dog should learn to enjoy being in the crate. It can be a safe haven for the dog.
You should also ask your breeder if you’re going through a breeder to get your puppy, you can ask the breeder to start this early before you even get the dog.
