Homeless Puppy

First and foremost, thanks to Eric Matyas at Soundimage.org who allowed me to use the music I have in this video.

I can’t understand how someone can have a heart that is completely devoid of compassion and empathy, and they dump poor dogs and cats like this puppy I found in a rural area.

I was driving along a gravel road south of Abilene, Texas when I spotted a small dog sniffing road kill. I stopped my car and the very first image you see in my video is this puppy as she came up to me. The photo obviously communicates she is begging for me to save/rescue her.

She had apparently been living under a canopy of Prickly Pear cactus plants (the only shelter in the area) and she had cactus needles imbedded deep into her skin in several areas. I also saw that she had mange, which was probably because she had been eating mice, rats and road kill to stay alive.

She was dumped when the weather was bitter cold, and had probably been “disposed of” in early January. I found her on 1-25-17 and immediately named her Jan.

I took her to my ranch, fed her and I’ve never seen a dog drink that much water when I took her to a bucket I filled up for her.

My video isn’t finished and the story continues, but Jan is doing much better now that I have had her to my veterinarian several times.

I have 11 rescue dogs that I foster and I can’t do this anymore. I’m 65 years old, have multiple sclerosis, polymyalgia rheumatica, a ruptured Baker’s cyst in my right knee and each morning when I wake up I think “Was I in a bar fight last night and lost?” Then I remember I don’t go to bars… and I don’t want to go to a shelter and dump Jan there, because the local shelter eventually euthanizes dog and cats after a short time period, and Jan is too sweet and precious to let that happen to her.

Please stay tuned.
