The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest hunting dog in the world and the ‘Old’ Irish Wolfhound was responsible for hunting and eliminating the last wolf of Ireland in 1786 on Mount Leinster. The New Irish Wolfhound was rebirthed when the old type almost died out after guns removed the need for dogs. The newer type has been bred to be docile and loving and a wonderful pet.
