Meet Reese, a six-month-old ball of energy! He’s a bundle of personality—picky with his cuddles when he’s awake, but when it’s nap time, he transforms into the biggest snuggler. He loves to burrow under blankets and has mastered sitting and even dancing. But when it comes to food? He has zero boundaries!
Mindy says that when she holds him like an infant, it puts him in a calm state—and for now, she’s not sure he even realizes he can get down! Reese has done really well with potty training, and his absolute favorite toy, aside from his big brother Jax—a seven-year-old Staffordshire Terrier—is an empty water jug. He has plenty of bones and stuffed animals, but nothing beats that jug.
Reese came to Mindy through a wonderful woman named Kathy, who had been chatting with her about a litter of Basenjis due in January. But in December, Kathy reached out with news of a five-month-old red boy who had been returned to her due to behavioral issues. Reese had been with a family that realized they were in over their heads with this unique breed.
Mindy immediately set up a meeting but was worried about how Jax would react. Jax had been alone for over a year after the loss of their beloved Boxer and had shown some anxiety and aggression toward other dogs. After major preparations—a long walk and some calming treats—Mindy introduced the two in a neutral area. To her surprise, Jax reacted like he had been waiting his whole life for a new brother. It was heartwarming to see, and since then, Reese and Jax have become inseparable.
Reese has brought so much energy into their home—it’s like having a toddler again! He’s AKC certified, and his official name is Sekhem Mer Anubis Ramesses. Mindy is excited to start a training course with him soon.
