Puppy

One of the most useful things I taught my dogs!

“Legs” or “Middle” provides your dog with a safe place in public, aids in recall, relaxes your dog, and helps build your bond.

I use this often in an elevator, visiting the vet, initiating a training session, and at the end of a recall.

Step 1: get your dog comfortable between your legs, toss treats behind and to the side of you, mark/reward when they return between your legs

Step 2: lure with a treat into a sit position between your legs. We use a visual cue of two fingers like a peace sign moving to the side of my leg

Step 3: add the verbal cue “legs” or “middle” right before the visual cue

Step 4 (advanced): add movement, take one step at a time, forward/left/right, mark/reward. When ready, increase steps until you are able to do a full heel.

If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself using the cue daily!

Thank you so much for your support! If you have any feedback, training requests, or just want to talk about your pup… We’ll see you in the comments!! 🤗
