Australian Kelpie Dog: Travels more than 30 miles in one day!

Australian Kelpie dogs were bred specifically to tend to sheep without much assistance from shepherds or other people. There are now two distinct Kelpie subspecies. The first kind consists of working dogs that continue to herd cattle and serve as shepherds. Show Kelpies are the second variety for dog shows. Given the opportunity to work, kelpies may make excellent family pets because of their high level of intelligence and strong work-related instinct.

Kelpies only require brushing once a week, which makes them easier to maintain than many other breeds. Kelpies show loyalty to those who they trust.

Kelpies can behave destructively if they don’t receive the mental training and stimulation they require. Kelpies may try to “herd” or bite at smaller children if they are not properly trained.
