We were asked to rescue a puppy who had been trapped in a culvert for three days. We could hear her crying as soon as we arrived but when we went inside the culvert to get her, she ran away. We followed her, and periodically heard her wailing in fear up ahead. Every now and then we heard her swimming. The culvert had pools of water at each junction, so evidently she was crossing them to get away from her would-be rescuer…
