Basenji Dog Breed Information
The basenji can be a reserved dog, affectionate with his family but reserved with outsiders. They used to hunt in packs, and if socialized as puppies, they are usually good with other dogs. Some basenjis, on the other hand, can get into arguments with other basenjis.
Basenjis are intelligent dogs, yet they are difficult to teach. To bring out their greatest traits, they require innovative, patient handling. They don’t bark, but their yodeling is rather loud. They can be chewers and diggers if they are left to their own ways.
Basenji breeders and owners often describe them as “catlike” since they groom themselves by licking and are quiet. They also seem to enjoy climbing to great altitudes, presumably to observe their territories.
