Rather than the German shepherd or Belgian Malinois, the first breed to be used in the police of Great Britain was the Airedale Terrier. Due to their bravery in the WW1 where they transported medicine and food, delivered message and identified dead soldiers, the Airedale terrier at that time had a golden reputation. So they started being recruited in Scotland, and then in all law-enforcement departments in the Great Britain, and then later in Germany also.
