How to Adopt a Dog or Puppy Online

In this episode we’re giving you some tips and tricks to adopting a dog or puppy online.

Now… first and foremost.. You should be aware of the scams. There are plenty of bad guys out there who take pictures from other websites and upload them to Craigslist, Petfinder, or other online classifieds and pretend like they’re up for adoption.

Who does that?… I mean… that’s just cruel.

They also advertise super rare breeds, like a Shiba Inu, or Japanese Spitz.

And who can resist THIS adorable face?

So before you go out and start your search for your new fur-baby.. Here’s a few tips from us:

Ask the breeder to video chat.
This is almost the easiest way to identify a scam. Ask the breeder to Facetime, Skype, or set up a Google hangout so that you can ask questions, and see the pup for yourself. If they’re avoiding you, it’s probably a scam.

Never wire money to someone you don’t know.
Wire transfers and pre-paid debit cards are almost impossible to trace once the transaction is complete.
Even if the scam artist uses a name, it’s usually fake.
Use another method that involves a credit card, not a debit card. If something goes wrong, you can try disputing the transaction with your bank.

Watch out for rare breeds at a low price.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. You can also checkout Humane Society’s tips for finding a responsible dog breeder.

You should also check with your local Better Business Bureau to see check out the company’s rating, and any possible complaints or customer reviews.
