Mojito and his siblings were born after their mom accidentally got out of her yard and got pregnant. When the dog’s parents discovered that she’d had puppies, they immediately decided they didn’t want them.
After finding the puppies, the family quickly surrendered them to Love Leo Rescue in Los Angeles. The sweet little puppies are half pug, half Chihuahua — affectionately nicknamed “chugs” — and the rescue named them Mojito, Mimosa, Daiquiri and Piña Colada.
“We offered to spay the mom for free, but sadly they declined our offer,” Sasha Rose, president of Love Leo Rescue, told The Dodo. “We run a free spay and neuter clinic for low-income residents and cannot emphasize enough how important it is to spay and neuter your pets.”
On top of being from an unwanted litter, Mojito and two of his sisters have black coats, which often makes it harder for a dog to get adopted. Dogs with darker colored coats don’t always photograph well or come off as outwardly expressive as dogs with lighter coats, making it harder for potential adopters to see their awesome personalities shine through.
“Mojito is the only male from the litter, and he is also the runt,” Rose said. “He is much smaller than his siblings, with shorter legs and a more pug-like face. He is the most affectionate of the crew though, and loves nothing better than snuggling in your lap.”

“Another win for black dogs everywhere,” Love Leo Rescue wrote on its Facebook page. “Mojito has found his forever home … happy in the arms of Hilary Duff. This little chug went from ‘unwanted’ to the best life ever. Thank you Hilary Duff for spreading the ‘adopt don’t shop’ message and welcoming Mojito into your family.”
Not only is Mojito now extremely wanted, he’s a celebrity puppy, and will be adored by millions of people every day on his new mom’s Instagram account. He’s found the perfect home, and will never have to worry about not being wanted ever again.
Meanwhile, Hilary is asking for help picking out a name! The mom-of-one took to social media to offer suggestions for what she’ll call the newest addition to her family. “Guys. My mom needs help,” the 29-year-old wrote in the caption. “Should it be Momo? Should it be Bean? Momo or Bean? Hello! name me please! Woof (that’s thanks in dog) and goodnight.”
Last February — three months after suffering the heartbreaking death of her beloved French bulldog Beau — she adopted his sister Peaches. It seems like three months is Hilary’s standard mourning period for her pets. Little Momo (or Bean!) made his way into the Duff family after the loss of Hilary’s childhood dog, 20-year-old Chihuahua Coco.
