Krauthammer Slams “Puppy Dog” John Kerry, Praises Rex Tillerson

In a series of statements made Wednesday evening, hours after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in what news reports described as a “tense” encounter, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer both praised the newly installed secretary and excoriated his predecessor, former Secretary of State John Kerry.
“John Kerry would go around like a puppy dog, pretending everything was OK and the Russians were listening … and all of this idiocy,” he said on Fox News. “What we had (today) was a stone-faced Tillerson who was grave and glum and said everything that was wrong, which is exactly the kind of realism you want.
“The message is simple,” he added. “The message is, to the Russians, the eight years of the free lunch is over. You’re not going to walk all over the West. You’re not going to walk over anyway you want. You’re going to get resistance.”
As noted by CNN, the meeting in Russia was scheduled to attempt “to bridge a deepening diplomatic divide over a chemical attack in Syria” that the Syrian government and its allies in Russia claim never happened.
It occurred less than week after President Donald Trump had responded to the chemical attack by launching a strike on an air base in Syria.
Both the president’s quick action against Syria and his secretary of state’s tough demeanor while dealing with the Russians were a change from the previous administration, in that such backbone had never been displayed by Kerry or former President Barack Obama.
“I was encouraged by the iciness,” Krauthammer concluded. “It was beautiful.”
Here’s the truth: When dealing with powerful foreign nations, you’re not suppose to bounce around like an eager-to-please puppy. Instead you’re supposed to stand up tall, put on a stoic countenance and lay down the law.
As a former Vietnam-war protesting hippy, Kerry apparently never realized this. Neither did his boss. Nor will these two simpleminded bumpkins likely ever wake up from their “Kumbaya” dreams and acknowledge the truth.
Thankfully, a new sheriff is in town, and neither he nor his deputies have any problem putting Syria, Russia, North Korea or any other rogue regime in its place.
